Bekah Starting School and the Seven Year Itch

Yesterday was a big day! My baby girl started school. I didn't cry, promise. I didn't even think about crying, I was way too excited! And how could I help myself when Bekah was there at 6:00am fully dressed in her uniform, telling me that this was the best day ever. See that face? Bursting, impatient with excitement. She repeated that phrase over and over on the bike ride to school, "This is the best day ever!" She did take a few moments out on the ride to laugh at her silly daddy who was wearing her backpack. Purple backpack. With white polka dots and a big pink stripe down the middle. It was full of all her school supplies, so it was a little heavy for her and Rus volunteered to take it. I love how being a daddy always trumps being super manly. Love it. I also loved that Rus decided to go in late to work so he could be there for Bekah's big day. Also present was my mom. Yep, she just can't help herself...my dad went out of town and her gas pedal started to itch.
So we got to the school and Bekah locked her bike and helmet up and we escorted her to her classroom. She speed walked, hips and all, to her classroom where she was delighted to put all of her stuff in her very own cubby, with a sophisticated "Rebekah Payne" name tag saving her spot. Then she gave me a kiss and went off to play with the cool mini-kitchen.
Rus headed off to work, throwing a "Happy Anniversary!" in the wind as he pedaled away. My mom and I (with Beau hanging out in my backseat, of course) were delighted to ride our bikes the "WEEE" way home with Jacob in the lead. I tell you what, that kid was tickled green and blue to be first and to be the fastest. It was a great ride!
Like I hinted before, it was also our seven year anniversary (how did that happen?!) and I have to tell you I believe in the seven year itch now. Completely. Rus and I went last Saturday to get pet rabbits, a breeding pair, that we can use to make baby rabbits that will grow up to become Rabbit Stew and Rabbit Dijon. (Please, please, recognize that "our" new venture completely and solely stinks of Rus.) We both got attacked by mosquitos and my legs were fairly apportioned 10 bites each. And that is why I believe in the seven year itch. So here are some pics of the ma and pa...Polly (because Bekah insisted that her rabbit have a pretty, not goofy name)...Beau wants her. He is determined to have her. You can see it in his face. and TBone. Don't worry about our children's relationships with their bunnies. They will be the first to tell you that we are going to eat the babies, when they are fryer size, naturally.
And there you have it. Bekah's biggest milestone since learning how to walk. I know she is going to have a wonderful, happy experience there and I know I'll miss her being my helper here at home. Here's to you, baby girl!

Can you look any sexier in the bike picture? I sense some calf flexing going on! We had Isaac's first day also- it was great. I'm glad I'm not heartless for not crying either- he was so excited as well.

Those kids are so cute! Wish I could have been there. However, I don't know about eating rabbits. It makes my day when I am at work and get to read your blog.

Wow, I cannot even imagine that day. Weird. And Beau wanting that bunny just about killed me. Sweet little thing.

YAY for Bekah!! I can't believe it...and can't wait to hear more and more stories about this bless-ed event in her life. How sweet of your hubby to put aside his manly, manlyness for his little girl. I tell you, little girls sure have a way with the daddy's. And a big fat WOAH on being married for 7 years. Wierd....

Wasn't it just yesterday that you, me and Rus were sitting in a hospital room in Flagstaff. I loved how you said "I love Rebekah" over and over. I wish O could have been there to see her go to school.
