Here are the teacher gifts that Jacob and Bekah and I had so much fun making! The idea for it came from the dragon picture Jacob and I made a long time ago, and that idea came from Eric Carle - the "Hungry Caterpillar," "Brown Bear, Brown Bear" author. Eric Carle layers tissue paper to illustrate his beautiful books.
To do the project the kids and I went to their school and took a picture of the front of the school.
We picked out the colors that we could see: Yellow, blue sky, blue mountains, grey, green, orange, bright blue for the school, black, white, and red
Then each kid got to paint a full sheet of one color - so Jacob painted a green page using bright green, regular green and dark green. Bekah painted a blue sheet with dark and light blues, some grays and a little purple thrown in. We did the same with all the other colors. Both kids painted with bubble wrap, stiff bristly brushes, a corn on the cob, their hands, and splattering paint with a toothbrush. Then when each of the full sheets were dry we cut them up into the right shapes for each part of the drawing. I used my silhouette to cut letters out of the yellow and black papers. I sketched a line drawing of the school on the base paper and then the kids glued on the shapes that I cut out for them.
Here is Jacob with his awesome teacher, Ms. Rozzell. She loved Jacob and he loved her too. We will miss her next year.
Here is the finished product next to the real thing for a comparison. Ours is way more interesting, don't you think? :) (The one below was Bekah's - a little different than Jacob's)
Here are some close-ups.
When we were finished we framed and delivered them...The teachers loved them! Success!

That is such a great idea!
Those. Are. AWESOME.
You give Eric Carle (is that how you spell it?) a run for his money. Or his illustrator. You know what I mean.
Um wow. Those are pretty darn amazingly cool teacher gifts. Really.
Of course.
