So you might be wondering how he enjoyed the whole process, and...well...he hated it. He screamed bloody murder the whole time they were casting him and then fell into a much needed sleep as they finished up the cast. The rest of the day he was either sleeping or crying or nursing. Finally the next afternoon (Saturday, yesterday) he had about 20 minutes of being awake and happy and that's when I finally let out a deep breath and realized we'd be okay. And today he seems fine and back on his regular schedule. So he gets his next cast on Wednesday and I wonder if we'll go through the same thing all over again or if it will get better or worse. I don't think he's necessarily in pain, but I think I'd compare it to having braces on your teeth and getting them tightened. It doesn't feel good for the first little while, and then you adjust and it's okay. Plus the cast weighs a lot and he can't stretch that leg out, and I'd imagine it'd feel a little claustrophobic.
Anyways, I am so grateful that it's just one cast and that he seems to be doing okay. I'm coming up with ideas of things to tell those inquisitive people who ask me what happened to my baby's leg. "Skiing accident." "Skateboarding." You'll have to let me know if you think of anything good.
I hope you enjoy the slideshow. I'm not really a fan of slideshows, but it was the only way to show the whole process of how they put on his cast. Thanks to my mom for taking all the pictures. I didn't put it to music, but you can just imagine a baby screaming the whole time, and that will really bring it to life. :)
Of course I had to draw on his cast...A blank canvas! I just couldn't help myself! |

Poor baby! I'm sorry he (and you, Mom) had to go through that. Isaac had to have a cast when he was two and it was really hard. Conversely, I am glad they have a way of helping our kids these days. I hope the process goes well and his little foot is okay.
I am so sorry that you all have to go through this. When I watched the slideshow I just wanted to pick him up comfort him. I'm sure that's how you must have felt too. It's so hard to watch your kids (especially little) go through tough things. And he is so precious! I hope it all turns out well and as painless as possible.
Wow! It is great that the feet were a 4.5 and a 1 or 2. Ours were 5 and 5.5. Have a great week. Next week you will get to see how he handles the cast saw. Zach hated that sound with his whole heart. Good luck and hang in there. When you see him running with his siblings you will say it was all worth it.

We had been wondering. Thanks for the update. What does that mean for his other foot? Will walking on it help it to straighten out the rest of the way?
Oh and who did the cast art? I love it!
I HATE holding my kids down for shots, I can't imagine for this...I don't know how you did it...On the other hand, I love that he has his tounge stuck out in those two pictures...the one of him making that face is PRECIOUS!
Joy - I drew on his cast...a blank canvas, I couldn't help myself! And about his other foot - the doctor said it just has a tendency to turn in, but it still has a full range of motion and moves like it should, so besides just stretching it out for him, there's really nothing else we need to do about that foot.
Aww poor sweet baby. I'm sure that was hard for you, it kills me anytime Ben has to do something like get blood drawn or shots or once he had to be catheterized. I think it was more traumatic for me than him!! The cast looks so cute all colored though. And I hope you really do tell people he was skateboarding. Or snowboarding. Or maybe skydiving.
just FYI, I have a friend who is due any day now and her baby boy also has clubbed feet. She loves to look at your blog and hear about how it's going for you guys. I'm sure it is VERY comforting for her to hear that you are being able to handle it well, especially with it being so unknown to them. It's always good to hear about other's experiences when you're going through the same thing. You are appreciated!
